Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company based in Palo Alto, California, United States. Tesla's current products include electric cars, battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels and solar roof tiles, as well as other related products and services.
Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers ( by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning as Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, who contributed most of the funding in the early days, has served as CEO since 2008) all of them wanted to prove that people didn’t need to compromise to drive electric – that electric vehicles can be better, quicker, and more fun to drive than gasoline cars. Today, Tesla builds not only all-electric vehicles but also infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products. Tesla believes the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better.
The company's name is a tribute to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.
